Hey there friends 🙂 As many of you know, one of my favorite things to do is find creative ways to interact with scripture. Getting to the heart of a passage in such a way that is very personal really helps me hear God speak on an intimate level. It causes His words to stick! I want you and your kids to have that heart connection too, so I’m sharing a short post along with a couple printables that you and your kiddos can use.

I don’t remember when I started taking scripture and putting it into my own words, but I’d like to call it “Writing Scripture Into Your Heart.”
There’s something even more rich about reading a passage and then rewriting it in your own words that makes His message to you much more personal–it’s in your heart language:)
I’ve been working through Chapter One in my Psalms study with a couple of my sweet friends. It’s been such a joy to spend that time encouraging one another and using simple and creative methods to help scripture take deep root in our hearts. At the end of each chapter there is an option of responding in prayer or rewriting a Psalm in your own words. It is a powerful spiritual exercise that challenges me and sharpens my trust in the Lord. So, I thought I’d share this with a great resource to help you try it out!

Here’s my heart on Psalm 34
Clearly, I’m no David, but this exercise is for me–to help me internalize and grow (so don’t judge:).
Psalm 34:1-6 (NIV)
I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.
I will glory in the LORD; let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together.
Psalm 34:1-6 (My Writing:)
I will sing the praises of my Lord all the time. Even through challenges. Worshiping and praising Him will be on my lips all day long.
I will never cease to be amazed by the Lord; let me bless others with His goodness and help them to rejoice too.
I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
Let’s bring glory to the Lord together!
Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.
This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles.
He has always been so faithful. When I have needs, I pray and He answers, gives me peace, and calm in my heart.
His glory shines in and out of me when I am fully surrendered in trust. I’m always in need; I know that when I call out to Him, He will rescue me.
I promised this would be short, so I just want to encourage you to give it a try. Download the printables for you and your kids and practice rewriting in your own words. There are a few short passage suggestions as well as a cute printable for your kids and a pretty printable for you. It’s a great way to grow and connect creatively with God and His Word.
