I don’t know about you but I’ve been clearing out drawers and cabinets. Spring is springing at my house and I’ve got the itch to give my house a sprucing up! Part of this “home freshening” has me also thinking about my walls and what I can do on a budget to bring them some sparkle:) So I got to work on some free printable wall art to not only brighten up your space, but also bring you spiritual encouragement and hugs from the Lord. When they were young
You know the scripture that talks about loving the Lord your God? Here’s the one:
Deuteronomy 6:5-9 New International Version Bible
5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
As a young parent, I took those verses to heart. I tried to grab opportunities to have in-depth conversations with my kids that helped us all to look at situations through the lense of scripture and how they should respond. Moments that were painful at the time, like why a friend didn’t invite them to their birthday party or why they couldn’t watch a movie that everybody else was going to, or why they were treated unfairly when they did nothing wrong.
Talk about these commands
Many of these things would circle back to what it looked like to live out “Love the Lord your God with all your heart . . .,” and great conversations ensued as part of everyday life. I think that’s what God meant when He said to impress His commands on our children and to talk about them when we were at home or when we were out (driving in traffic brings up some great opportunities to talk about patience:).
At the end of a busy day just before turning out the light, we’d share a story or two. My hubbie would often tell funny stories that would incorporate a tornado in a lighthearted way, of course–kind of his trademark. Ha. But at these precious times when stresses of the day had slipped off, that’s when love would shine through and we’d again have some of those great training moments that helped to shape our kids.
A little budget-friendly art saves the day
I say all of this because it brought to mind the importance of having things around your house that prompt you to think about the spiritual ( Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.) Things that remind you of the truths found in scripture. They bring God to the forefront for you and your family, and those who visit you. Don’t we all need to have those subtle reminders to have God first on our mind throughout the day?
With that in mind, I spent some time creating six printables that are suitable for framing. They fit nicely in an 8X10 frame with a bit of trimming and are easily printed at home on your home printer. I would recommend a high quality paper or card stock. This is the paper I used. It’s card stock and has some flecks of color in the background. It looks really nice with the colors in the designs and isn’t a stark white background. If you’re looking for farmhouse style, here’s a great frame I found.
A few other sources for printable art
I made these great scripture reminders in sage green and grayscale that are BEAUTIFUL! It’s easy to print them off and use them in your office, home or homeschool area as an inspirational reminder every day.
