Child with Easter basket

Sharing is caring!

Easter is my FAVORITE holiday! It’s a time where my focus is more acutely aware of the death and resurrection of Jesus and how much I love and worship Him for His sacrifice. Easter time heightens my spiritual senses 😉 It got me thinking about what we can put in our Easter baskets to keep an “Easter frame of mind” all year long . . .

Keep the heart of Easter all year with these three creative faith ideas.

I want to help you have a beautiful Easter that is focused on Jesus—the reason we celebrate. The bunnies and eggs are very cute, but they draw our focus away from valuable contemplative time.

Don’t get me wrong. We always had Easter baskets for our kiddos every year. But we spent more time on reflecting on the real meaning of Easter. Our church did a wonderful job of creating an interactive museum kind of experience that was amazing. They had an interactive living museum that encompassed the entire upstairs of our church. We would walk through the scenes depicting the last day of Jesus’ life. Many had a component where we participated. It ended with scenes from His crucifixion, and our hearts were pricked after having just a taste of Jesus’ last day on earth as a human being. Just thinking about it brings fresh tears to my eyes.

We celebrate Jesus’ resurrection

But the story didn’t end there for Jesus. When His friends went to visit His grave, it was empty. He had risen from the dead. He was and is still is alive! He took my punishment and your punishment so that we could live forever too. And that’s why Easter is so special! That’s why my heart is so full at this time of year. Full of love and appreciation and adoration for my Savior.

Keep your spiritual focus throughout the year

Wouldn’t it be awesome to have that tenderhearted Easter mindset all year? I think so, and I want to give you some helps to make that happen. These are just a few ideas to put in your Easter basket that will have lasting impact. Not the kind of lasting impact (around my waistline) that chocolate bunnies and marshmallow peeps bring either. Ha! You’ll be setting yourself up for renewing your mind during the Lenten season and beyond.

Make your Easter Baskets have great purpose in addition to the colorful, tasty treats this year!

3 Creative Faith Ideas for Your Easter Basket

No Easter basket would be complete without the colorful, fun stuff–right?! So, let’s start with the the staples that I use ALL THE TIME.

1. Fun, creative supplies to motivate you

  • Easter is the perfect time to delve into “Creative Faith” and all the colorful pencils, pens and washi tape. Your time spent in the Word can be more hands-on and engage more of your senses. I love using bright colored pencils to mark the text and to create in my Bible journal. I’m loving the SIVO colored pencils because they have a creamy texture, they don’t break easily when sharpened, and they are bright colors. They really are my favorite way to put color on a page! I bought these a while back and then didn’t see them around again for a couple years. I was so excited when I found them again. Yay!
  • Washi tape is another fav that I especially like to use to dress up my journal and my planner. There are so many fun colors and patterns and there’s a lot on a roll! If you prefer a solid color for outlining text and running along the edges of the page, there are also solid colored sets of washi.
  • Gel highlighters work so well for highlighting text in your Bible or book. They have a creamy, soft texture, but they’re not oily. They don’t bleed through even thin Bible paper and have nice soft colors that aren’t too bold on the paper.

2. A Bible, journal and devotional as your backbone

  • I love creating in my ESV Journaling Bible, but I also have a journal with lined pages that I take to church and use in my quiet time. I put together a companion free printable with scriptures to reflect on for Easter (or anytime of year). Meditate on 2-3 passages a week using your journaling Bible or journal to grow your faith and love for Jesus <3 . Scroll to the bottom to download it now.

Study and Enjoy scripture on your own

This past year I wrote some ebooks and resources to help you study the Bible on your own even if you’ve never done that before. I walk you step by step through how to engage with scripture. These are also available for children!

Something to sip from 🙂

When I sit down in the morning and open my Bible, I have a cup of tea. So, adding a mug would be something to round out your basket. I’ve used cute mugs to hold my colored pencils too. It makes them easier to see and grab the right color.

Keep your kiddos in the Word too

When my kids were older, they would get some of the same things that us “big kids” would get. But if they’re littles, sharing the story of Christ’s death and resurrection is best done in a simpler way.

There are sooo many children’s books out there for Easter. When I looked at many of them, they didn’t do the best job at portraying the true meaning of Easter. There are a lot of bunny and egg renditions, for sure. But there are some good Christian books that help you share the story of Easter in a way that is at a child’s level. The Story of Easter is great for little ones. It says 3+ but I think it would be better for 5+.

Add in some fun, colored goodies

Easter is a time of celebration, so go outside and play now that the weather is nice. I love this pack of bright sidewalk chalk with so many colors to choose from. Express your love for Jesus on your sidewalk or driveway and let the whole neighborhood benefit! Then play with these great bubble wands that are so much fun!

Have a wonderful Easter season and make the joy of Easter last all year long by spending time in the Word and interacting with scripture in a creative way. Let me know how it goes!
